This post, funnily enough, is for all of your plotting needs. At the beginning of every round there will be a comment with the names of the Players for that round, and space to match up Players and Weapons or organise battles. You can also use this post to plot other things unrelated to battling as well, if you don't want to use AIM or Plurk.

Include the following information when you comment on the individual round posts.:

For Battle Matchups

Also indicate whether you want to have a thread for the match, or if you're fine with just declaring the outcome.

For Players Seeking Weapons

For Weapons Seeking Players

Note: where these forms say "Weapon" or "Player" they are asking for the name of the character who is a Player or a Weapon for the round.

New students arrive in Rakuen on a steam train. They wake up on the train with a simple rucksack containing a uniform set (everyone gets the trousers version, skirt version, and shorts version of the uniform regardless of gender) in their size (in the colours of their assigned school), the school handbook, a Player glove and twenty raks.

A post will go up on the day new characters arrive, which is open to all new characters and will be set on the train. An example of this can be found here. Later, a post will go up set on the platform where Prefects and other existing characters will come to meet the new arrivals and answer their questions, show them to their dorms, etc. An example can be found here

Once the platform post has gone up, you are free to assume your character has been shown to their school and can go about exploring the town. The setting page is here.

Their first day will be mostly exploring and getting to know other characters before the round change assembly the next day.
In Rakuen there are six identical towers placed around the island. These are marked as number 13 on the map. As they are to play a part in the overplot of Rakuen Revolution, we have compiled information on them here. If you're planning a plot where your characters attempt to damage or open a tower, please let the mods know either by coming and talking to us or replying to this post.
- The towers are completely sealed. If a character was to climb up the outside, they would find it windowless until they reached the top, which seems to be constructed of mirrors. There is a large, ornate door at the bottom with neither handle nor keyhole. There are, however, four plaques, each the colour of a different dorm buildings. Every plaque has a hand-print burnt into it, though the size and shape of the print varies from plaque to plaque.
Since Rakuen can be a tad complicated when you're not used to it, and the Exaclan system even more so, Rakuen Revolution has a buddy system. Simply put, this means that players with a little more experience under their belts can show neulings the ropes.

This doesn't mean you can't grab any member of Rakuen Revolution for questioning, or even that you can't approach the mods at any time! We just understand that having one person you are practically obligated to flail at when confused can be reassuring.

If you want to receive a buddy of your very own when you join Rakuen Revolution, please answer yes when asked on your app.

On the other hand, if you've been here a while and want to volunteer to be a buddy, please comment here with your name, the characters you play (including their school), and your preferred method(s) of contact. We will contact you and send you in the direction of your new buddy when one becomes available.

When possible, we will make sure that veteran buddies have at least one character in the same school as the new character.

On a small island town isolated within the flow of worlds, two schools wage a constant war to produce the ultimate weapon. A self-sustaining system, the town creates NPCs to populate its buildings and run its facilities, but looks outside itself, into the chaos of the multiverse, for its raw materials. Rakuen draws its population indiscriminately from every conceivable world with intelligent humanoid inhabitants, and some without. Shuttled in via train every weekend, their powers sealed within themselves in the form of spiritual weapons, characters awaken with little memory of the journey or their reasons for enrolling in one of the two schools - though, inevitably, they can recall agreeing to do so if they strain themselves.

Rakuen seals many things to draw out its inhabitants' true potential. The first is their abilities. The second is fragments of their memories and personality, which they must earn back by participating in the tournaments and skirmishes of the system known as Exaclan.

Exaclan, as anyone can find out with a few well-placed questions, is a virtual battle system layered over Rakuen that allows warriors to fight indefinitely without inflicting real damage - only the pain of the blows remains. To operate Exaclan, the system of Rakuen selects a number of its inhabitants to be the active warriors, the operators - or, as they are known in colloquial terms, the Players - and relegates the remaining majority to be their passive supply of Weapons, whose role is to serve and obey their particular Player. Players use a glove keyed into the virtual programming to draw a virtual facsimile of these passive characters' inner weapon, which they use to battle.

In RP terms, Rakuen Revolution is a reasonably small, medium-paced battle school game with memory loss and power alteration elements. It requires a basic monthly activity check. It is organised to optimise CR whilst allowing for player-run plots and schemes within a larger framework. While it doesn't have an active plot, there is an overarching target (the endgame) at which all characters can aim, and miniplots are held fortnightly with the potential for crack or alternate plots should players wish to trigger them.

MEMORIES

Feb. 12th, 2012 03:15 pm
Upon arrival at Rakuen every resident has ten of their memories removed. These range from important memories (large chunks of their lives, the identities of friends and family members) to trivial things (what they ate for breakfast on September 4, 2009) to patently ridiculous common sense knowledge (decorative fruit centerpieces are not to be eaten, gravity always pulls downward). The introduction video that every student watches explains the reason for this: Since memories cost Raks to regain and Raks are earned by fighting, in this manner students are encouraged to fight one another.

Other things that are not quite memories, but which are similar (such as an alternate personality's manifestation) may also be lost, but it is not required that they must be. It's simply an option.

Characters applying from Shitsurakuen have a specific memory they must lose; please talk to a mod before you submit an app for a character from this series.

Fortunately, memories can be regained through the use of Memory Charm upgrades. Of course, to purchase the upgrades, one needs to participate in Exaclan to obtain Raks. Memory Charms can be purchased at the Exaclan store run by Recette.

LEGEND

Feb. 11th, 2012 10:41 pm
There is a mysterious legend that holds the secret to Utopia. Characters will be able to uncover bits and pieces of this legend throughout the game.

On the train, immediately after completing the tutorial, they hear the following, as though in a dream:
This is a very simple story that everyone knows. A legend of a Princess, the Demon Lord who kidnapped her, and the Knight who fought to save her. The Lord had kidnapped the Princess countless times, but every time the Knight bested his challenges and rescued the Princess. No matter what tricks and ploys the Demon Lord used, the Knight would always triumph in the end.

There is also a city wide network which cannot be accessed by Discards. Sometimes, when a Player draws a weapon, a strange symbol appears around its tip for a few seconds. The symbol can be seen here -- it consists of several Javascript-like text boxes surrounding a star shape; in the middle of the star, the weapon's name (not the character's name, but the name you chose for their weapon form when apping) appears.

The reason for this mysterious symbol is, as yet, unknown in-character. The condition surrounding the appearance of the symbol is called the outbreak condition.

The outbreak condition is actually very simple: "We believe in each other." The symbol will appear only if it is drawn by a Player who the Weapon believes in with all their heart; however, the emotion must be reciprocated. That is, if Sora's weapon has the symbol when drawn by Koharu, then Koharu's weapon has a symbol when drawn by Sora. Note that this only applies to the first time the symbol appears! The outbreak condition only need be met once; once the symbol is present, it will appear every time the weapon is drawn, no matter who draws it.

Due to the nature of Link charms, when a weapon is drawn by the Player that the Weapon is Linked to, the outbreak symbol will automatically appear.

When a character has fully unlocked their weapon's upgrades and has reached the outbreak condition, they will become a prefect and gain extra privileges.

Characters are free to guess at the reason behind the symbol's appearance, but keep in mind:
  • All characters from Shitsurakuen have had any information regarding the outbreak condition removed as one of their ten lost memories.
  • From an in-character standpoint, there are many possibilities behind what the symbol could mean.
  • And most importantly, out-of-character knowledge does not equal in-character knowledge.
If you would like your character to correctly guess the outbreak condition, you must speak to a moderator to explain their logic and reasoning. Failure to do so may result in a forced retcon.

If your character meets the outbreak condition, please comment here so they can be added to the list.

Since every Saturday (the arrival weekend, OOC) is a rest day, characters have no status as Player or Weapon and everyone is free to leave their campus on this day alone. One of the advantages of this is that they can get jobs around town. Each job pays 5 Raks for the day and gives bonuses in the form of employee discounts or free entry.

This post is to sign up for jobs. There are all sorts of shops, restaurants and theatres around town for characters to work in, as well as facilities like a gym and a library. Characters of any age can apply for jobs. Please state your character's full name, school and the job or place they're applying to. Jobs are completely optional, but a good way to earn some additional raks.

If you need to get hold of a mod for something, you have come to the right place. Your delightful mod crew of three span several time zones and you can usually find one or two of us online.

Comments are screened, and anonymous commenting is enabled.

If you have something you want to tell us or ask us to do something about that you might not be willing to bring up to us by any other means, this is where you can do it – whether it's a problem with the way the game is run, with a mod, with another player – any kind of feedback. Heck, if you want to say something nice we wouldn't mind that too much either, but obviously we anticipate the main use of this post will be for people to bring concerns and problems to the mods' attention.

While concerns raised in this post may be brought up outside it in efforts to correct them, no names of commenters will be named, even if they don't post anonymously.

Please post drops here with the following form.

All characters left behind will leave a charm that contains one of their upgrades, and one of their memories (either one of the ten from their app, or a memory of something that happened in-game). It's up to you which; if you don't care, then leave those fields blank and the mods will pick something. This applies to every character who drops, whether or not they have actually unlocked any of their upgrades or memories.

RULES

Jan. 5th, 2011 04:45 am

OOC Rules

Rakuen Revolution is a pretendy fun-times Dreamwidth RPG based on a manga that is a cross between Revolutionary Girl Utena, Pokemon, and Paradise Lost.

We try not to take ourselves too seriously.

However, there are still a few rules that need to be followed.

1) Don't be a jerk. Remember the golden rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Don't be unnecessarily antagonistic and mean to others. If you have something to say about their playing, say it nicely.

This also means no racist, sexist, ableist, homophobic, transphobic, or otherwise jerkish slurs or jokes. Even if you think they're funny, you don't know who could be sitting on the other side of the screen.

2) Six characters at a time. That is the current character limit. It has always been the character limit. It may or may not be increased in the future.

3) Remain active. AC is one post or two comment threads each month. We don't want to force you to tag when you don't feel like it, or make you take unreasonable time out of your daily life, but since this is a collaborative game with a focus on partner dynamics and battling, we would like you to be active. It's not fair to other players when someone they need is constantly unavailable.

If things are too hectic for you, or if you know for sure that you're going to be too busy to play, you can take a hiatus for up to one month. Any longer requires mod permission.

4) IC ≠ OOC. Just because you know something does not mean your character knows it. Using OOC knowledge in-character without any sort of rhyme or reason as to how that knowledge was obtained is not allowed. This means no jumping on evil characters who are good at hiding their true selves; no automagically knowing the right answer to a puzzle without having the character work it out on their own; and so forth.

Furthermore, IC actions and feelings should not bleed into OOC. Just because your character had a fight with another character does not mean that the other character's player hates you. Characters are not their players; someone who goes around molesting chickens and kicking babies into bonfires while jaywalking might be played by the nicest person in the world.

5) No godmoding. You play your characters; all the other characters are being played by their muns. Do not dictate actions for other characters, assume that they're present somewhere unless their player has said so, etc. Even in battles, when a Player is using a Weapon to fight, the Player's mun should not specify how the Weapon's human self behaves or reacts to things.

IC Rules

These are the in-character rules of Conquest, Fortitude, and the city of Rakuen. There are no OOC consequences for characters breaking these rules, but keep in mind that there can and will be in-character repercussions.

General rules

  • No student or teacher may enter the campus of the opposing school, unless on invite for battle purposes or if they are owned by a member of aforementioned school.

  • The mayor's mansion and grounds are strictly off limits to all students and teachers.

  • School is between 8am and 1pm, with a further class between 3-5pm which Weapons must obtain their Players' permission to skip (thus, Discards have no choice but to attend). For Players and Weapons with permission, these afternoon classes are optional (but recommended!)

  • The prefects are responsible for upholding the rules and ensuring the smooth running of their school; as experienced Exaclan battlers, they must be respected and obeyed.

  • The prefects' headquarters are off-limits to any non-prefect Rakuen resident regardless of status.

  • The full uniform must be worn at all times, apart from on free days or after school hours where your own clothing may be worn.

Player rules

  • Every Player must fight. Failure to fight by the third day will induce Rak fines for the offending Player which will continue until the Player participates in a battle or until the round is over. (OOC note: it is possible to go into negative Raks, and if your character manages it, please let a mod know on the shop page!)

  • It is a great honour to be chosen to fight in the main arena. Failure to turn up, or anything less than a formal and public refusal to fight, will result in heavy fines, and continued insubordination will result in further punishment.

  • Players may not touch a Weapon that belongs to someone else. Breaking this rule will invoke the warning penalty. Discards are not affected by this rule.

  • There will be no battling in classrooms, and fighting staff during classes is strictly forbidden.

Weapon rules

  • Weapons have no rights; any rights they do possess have been granted by their Player. They should be grateful for them!

  • One must have one's Player's permission to leave campus or to use the gym, swimming pool, computer room and library facilities. In addition, if one's Player wishes to, they can give a Weapon permission to eat from the full cafeteria menu.

  • Weapons who belong to the shopkeeper must report to the shop at 1:15pm sharp for their afternoon work.

  • Weapons must be available for battling or other work at all times.

  • Weapons owned by a member of the opposing school will continue to live and study in their own school. However, they should still be available for their Player whenever they might have need. Buying a communicator so that one can receive messages from one's Player is a good way to be as good a Weapon as possible!

Discard rules

  • Discards may not leave campus; if one wishes to go to the shop they must ask a Player or a prefect to escort them.

  • The building containing the library, swimming pool, gym and computer room is strictly off limits to Discards.

  • Discards may only eat from the limited cafeteria menu. If they find this food unappetising, they must find and vow with a Player kind enough to give them permission to eat from the full menu.

  • Discards may not use the city-wide web, only the network system for their campus. Furthermore, Discards may only use this network system to search for a Player.

  • Discards may only sit at the Discard table in the cafeteria.

  • Discards may only sit in the front row of their classroom.

  • Teacher Discards must report to the head teacher during their breaks to run errands.

  • Student Discards are at the service of the prefects. Failure to carry out an order or request will result in swift punishment at the discretion of the head prefect.

SETTING

Dec. 27th, 2010 07:02 pm
Rakuen is essentially a small university town, at least superficially. It is situated on an island, with the only operational way onto said island being a steam-train that makes no return trips. In the town proper there are two school campuses -- one near the station, named Conquest, and Fortitude on the opposite side of the town. The centrepiece of the town is its large arena, in which more formal battles and tournaments are held, but it also boasts a small woodland in which numerous pavilions and small clearings are concealed, as well as a lake, a mercantile quarter and a mysterious mansion.

A number of small businesses that sell mundane items such as clothing or food are arranged in a square in the north of the town, included in which is the Exaclan shop, Rakettear. Scattered through Rakuen are six identical towers. The city itself is surrounded by a wall, behind which are alternating small cliffs and rocky beaches.

The entire area is coated in layers of tactile empathic holographics, all geared towards the battle system, and as such battles can take place anywhere.
